Mercari decided to make social connection a pillar of their marketplace. As a popular resource for collectors and hobbyists, it was a natural extension to bring people together with similar interests and passions to do more than just buy or sell, but to discover items, connect over hobbies, and engage other users who are just as passionate.

The Community experience includes: Hashtag architecture, unique usernames, groups, comments and threads, direct messages, product discovery, and profile following.
